Goal

LeadPoison is designed to provide the learner with access to interactive and clinically relevant activities that foster the effective management of patients who are at risk for lead poisoning as well as treating those who have become lead poisoned. This learning is provided as interactive, Internet-based training that uses multimedia, including audio, video, still imagery, and text.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the risk factors associated with lead poisoning.
  2. Recognize the signs and symptoms of lead poisoning.
  3. Explain the mechanisms of lead toxicity
  4. Apply evidence-based clinical practices in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients who are lead intoxicated.

  1. Pediatricians and primary care physicians caring for children.
  2. Nurses caring for children
  3. Physician assistants caring for children.
  4. Other healthcare providers providing care to children.

Designation Statement

The University of Virginia School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Virginia School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The University of Virginia School of Medicine awards 0.1 CEU per contact hour to each non-physician participant who successfully completes this educational activity. The CEU (Continuing Education Unit) is a nationally recognized unit of measure for continuing education and training activities that meet specific educational planning requirements. The University of Virginia School of Medicine maintains a permanent record of participants who have been awarded CEUs. This activity is approved for up to 0.5 CEUs.

Learners earn AMA PRA category 1™(or CEUs) by participating in a learning exercise. LeadPoison maintains your course status which can be accessed accessed by clicking the "Course Status " button located in the navigation bar at the top of the page. At any time, learners may print a transcript indicating the credit earned by clicking the "Get Transcript" button on the course status page.
